"INSOLITI Contemporanei"
Unusual Contemporary Dance Festival
Short dances

Contemporary Dance and Research Festival

Insoliti (Unusual Contemporary Dance) Festival was established in Turin in 2003
as a form of collaboration and exchange between different Italian choreographic
scenes. INSOLITI CONTEMPORANEI Festival (Unusual Contemporary Dance Festival)
is organized by Monica Secco’s Artemovimento Association in collaboration with Sara Marasso’s Association “Il Cantiere” and will be held this year at Araldo Theatre in Turin.
It aims to focus attention on brief performances, otherwise known as ‘short dances’.
Since  2004 the Festival has been focusing ever more attention on the exchange between Italian and European artists. Thanks to the collaboration between Monica Secco
and Alessandra Bentley, Insoliti International Festival of New Dance will be established.

Monica Secco
and Alessandra Bentley have been working on every aspect of the organization and artistic decision-making of this important event for more than two years. The Festival, which runs every year from the end of November to the beginning of December, grew out of their mutual attraction to the idea of meeting, presenting and interacting with not only well known choreographers but also young emerging choreographic scenes.

The result of this work is a very dynamic Festival which became reality thanks to the support of both Piemonte County Council and Turin City Council.
The fusion of theatrical dance with pure dance is beautifully expressed by national and international artists communicating through the identical universal languages of movement, gesture and drama.

Turin is only one face of the Festival as in actual fact Insoliti has a twin event in
Lione in France where Alessandra Bentley and Monica Secco have created
the French Insoliti Festival through a fruitful collaboration with the famous
French choreographer Michel Hallet Eghayan.

The selection of the artists to take part in the festival is always made bearing in mind the festival’s key aims of internationalism, artistic and cultural exchange between different countries and the chance of having a complete vision of theatrical dance which goes beyond the contemporary notion of improvisation.
